Hollywood Movie Making Recipe

  • 1 X Hot Chick
  • 1 X Top Secret Project
  • 1 X Sex Scene
  • 2-3 X Chase scenes

Mix, cut and shake as you wish.

If we should analyze the ingredients:

Hot Chick – that I assume was supposed to be Julia Roberts. Now. She might have been a “Pretty Woman” in 1990 but pulling her off today to play the cherry on the icing is like getting Cher to do the soundtrack. Smells like 90′s spirit. Not to mention that her clothes in movie were obviously chosen by a fanatic feminist – no man could possibly come up with such lack of sex appeal.

On the acting side, though – she did a perfect job. Despite the sleazy script, cliched lines and the not-so-handsome co-starring actor, Clive Owen. One more example that as actress she is to be respected.

Top Secret Project - For the sake of not spoiling your movie experience in case you decide to watch it, I should not elaborate too much on this one. However, I will mention that the idea is so absurd that even my biting comments are unnecessary. And mind you, CIA ex-agents are involved! Did we run out of drug trafficking, terrorist attacks plotting, flesh trading and nuclear weapon development? By the way, I hate to break it to them, but I believe L’Oreal already came up with that thing.

And because of this idea, I would seriously classify the movie as border-line comedy.

Sex Scene – now this is the 30-second-reason why guys would go to a movie like this one. As per the Movie Making Recipe this is the time to finally see that Hot Chick naked. Fail. You get a glimpse of Julia’s back just to realize that even if they had more scenes to follow, you wouldn’t want to watch them.

Chase Scenes – no blood, no killing, surprisingly. There was some chasing, though. Between Julia and a copy machine. Who uses scanning nowadays, anyway? Throughout the 3 min of her running up some staircase, looking for a scanner, all I thought: “Why the **** don’t you just take a picture with that bloody BlackBerry you’re holding?”

To wrap up the review of the movie in one sentence – Duplicity is very much like a waste bag – easily produced, maybe useful for a while, identical to many others, disposable and overall – junk.

Disclaimer:  I am not criticizing the movie. I am just trying it hard to find anything too impressive to say about it.

This was a great movie to round out SMEx’s final movie for it’s first year. The movie is based on the popular 1960′s TV show of the same name.

I’m obviously not old enough to have seen this TV show the first time it was aired, but it was so good that it was shown on constant repeat in Australia, when I was growing up. As a fan of the original show this movie does not disappoint.

Steve Carell does a great job as Maxwell Smart, Agent 86 and Anne Hathaway does a great job as Agent 99 and looks good doing it! This movie has all your favourite lines, as well as plenty of action and laughs. Everyone there enjoyed it and was laughing afterwards.

For all of you who have seen the TV show watch out for the cameo appearance by one the original actors!

Next week SMEx moves into year two!

Hoff says: “Missed it by that much.”
