Not having seen the first two films, I did not know what to expect of the third installment of “The Mummy”. From what I’d been told, the other two were quite bad. In addition to that, the only Brendan Fraser movie I ever saw was “George of the Jungle”, so my hopes weren’t high to say the least.
I’m happy to say that I pleased with the movie. I was sceptic up until the point that I realized that the creators of the movie didn’t take it seriously themselves, so I certainly shouldn’t try to! The genre is adventure, and my first thought of comparison is Indiana Jones. However, underneath it all it’s just a comedy. Once you realize that, the seemingly forced acting and poor dialog actually becomes a great source of fun in and of itself.
Now, I’m not allowed to give away spoilers, which unfortunately includes itsy bitsy details. So all I can say is that unexpected characters show up and give the movie a whole new twist completely in line with the paragraph above. Also, you will see something being thrown unlike anything in film history and that particular sequence just had me laughing hard and deep.
Expect innovations in film as well as historical foundations, and characters suddenly changing their mother tongue. Expect good fun, lameness and special effects set into stone. Expect platitudes, hairy women and Brendan Fraser without a thong.
And whatever you do, don’t take of too seriously!

I wrote the whole thing on my iPhone, so pardon me if it’s shorter than normal.

First time I saw the trailer to this film I had a lot of expectations. That was right after I saw Stardust and I liked fairytales with witches and Zeppelins. The Golden Compass did not meet my expectations! The story was boring and the Zeppelins and nice artistic scenary was not enough to impress me. Magne and I was discussing in the car home who was whos enemy and why? The film didn’t say much about that. But if the second film is coming I’m going to see it, maybe it will tie up some lose ends.

After a week of rest SMEx was back with a vengence last night, the movie, Stardust. SMEx just keeps getting bigger and bigger! This week we had our highest attendence ever, we have hit double figures, ten!!
Having had ten people attend means that we have now passed our first milestone for SMEx. We were unable to book all the tickets in one attempt on the internet as they only allow a maximum of nine to be purchased at any one time. Luckily Arjan was quick enough and we got the extra ticket next to the first nine. So what’s the next milestone event I hear you ask? Well it’s to have so many people we have to book tickets in two rows!!! The board has decided that this will happen once attendence exceeds 15.
So finally how was the movie…. to be honest these fantasy adventure type movies aren’t really my thing, but in the end this movie was ok. Robert De Niro was great as the fearsom Captain Shakespeare, without giving too much away the seven brothers also brought in a few laughs, and it has Claire Danes who always looks good. Two board members were smart enough to bring female companions along who appreciated the “chick flick” parts of this movie.
Hoff says: “Claire Danes looked hot as a star, but she doesn't have Pam's assets”
