The second year of SMEx started with Timur Bekmambetov‘s first Hollywood gig, the action filled and bullet-bending Wanted which is based on Mark Millar‘s graphic novel with the same name.

One of the main characters is the young, stressed and depressed accountant Wesley Allan Gibson, played by James McAvoy (mostly known from his great role in The Last King of Scotland). Wesley quickly evolves from a zero to “the man” after he hooks up with the hot and deadly Fox (Angelina Jolie) and joins the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins lead by Sloan (Morgan Freeman).

The assassins supposedly act entirely on fate and receive encoded messages about their next targets from a 1000 year old machine. Not everything makes sense, but it is fun to watch and you don’t really have to think much.

The soundtrack by Danny Elfman is well composed and is frequently used as a direct link to the action in the movie.

The plot might not be great, but the movie sure is entertaining with lots of action scenes. It has cool cars, bullets traveling in slow-motion and a breathtaking Angelina Jolie certainly eases the eye.
