Hi all, about time for another review, and this week “Yes Man” was on the agenda.
We kicked off the evening with expensive beers at Paddy’s about an hour before the movie were supposed to start, and after a while we had a crowd of 11 people gathered for this SMEx event number LVIII. That’s apparently 58, although I can count the ones I’ve attended on one hand…
Anyway, after watching all those silly norwegian commercials the movie finally started. Beyond the fact that this was another Jim Carrey movie, I hadn’t heard anything about it in advance — just the way I like it!
About 5 minutes into the movie, disaster struck; the screen went black, only the sound kept playing. This went on for, I don’t know, 3 or 4 minutes, and apparently keeping a crowd in the dark like that tends to cause noise, so after lots of shouting, screaming and clapping they finally turned on the lights. Then a woman came in and announced that the movie would be started over again. We were a little nervous for a while there, until they skipped the commercials, and then it all was good. Even the opening minutes were funny, although it had a vague deja vu feeling to it.
As you have guessed this was a comedy, this is the type of movie, Jim Carrey does best, although he didn’t put on his rubber face this time. Come to think of it, I found the movie to be entertaining all the way through, it didn’t have that longer, slightly boring period right in the middle, where I keep catching myself thinking about other things — I get that alot in other movies.
As you probably also have guessed, I am not going to reveal any details about the movie itself here, but if you like “Liar Liar” and/or “My Name is Earl”, I’d say Yes Man!
Oh, and btw, yes is the new no!
Yes Man, 7.9 out of 10 based on 10 ratingsHoff says: “"Yes is the new no!"”
Nice review to start the year off, and I would agree that it was one of the better Jim Carrey movies in a while.
On another note a few of us had an unoffical start to the SMEx year seeing the Norwegian movie Død Snø on Saturday. This movie was great was the best “feelgood-nazi-zombie-splatter-comedy” I’ve ever seen!
Yes, yes man, a feel good movie and a good way to start the year.
Good review, I think everyone left the theater feeling a bit like, mm, yes, I should say yes more often
See you guys in a couple of weeks, as I’ll say “yes” to vacations
Have a nice yes-vacation
I loveeeee this movie!!!
Have a nice weekend, day and vacation trip.
