Last Sunday was the day we’d been waiting for for so long (I think it was at least a week): the first SMEx event! And what an event it was.

We went to see Rush Hour 3, a movie that has been rumoured to exist for years (or ever since Rush Hour 2 was a huge success), but was only just now released. It was actually the second time that I saw it; in the opening weekend, I went to see the movie with my brother. Of course, seeing it on an Official SMEx Event is a whole new experience.

As your Christopher Walken Expert, I was slightly disappointed with this movie. Not only did it not feature Christopher Walken, there was also no reference to Christopher Walken to be found in this movie in any shape or form.

Despite this obvious handicap, the film made me laugh out loud. Both times I went. It featured that special kind of weird, but funny kung-fu action that only Jackie Chan can pull off, and also that special kind of weird, but funny acting that only Jackie Chan can pull off. That is, he can’t act, but that actually makes it funnier. Chris Tucker can be a bit irritating at times, but didn’t go totally overboard in this movie. Throw in Roman Polanski (!) as a French police officer, and you can’t really go wrong. As with most Jackie Chan movies, the funniest part is actually the end titles, when we get to see a hilarious blooper reel. It also shows that everyone seemed to have a lot of fun while making this movie, and you can see that in the result.

If you liked Rush Hour 1 and 2, you’ll like this one too. If it had Christopher Walken, this movie would have been close to comedy perfection.

Next up: The Bourne Ultimatum!
