Last Sunday’s SMEx was very special. Four of us got together to not-celebrate Valentines day. We meet at Champoo to discuss the Presidente’s new outdoor bathroom, as well as Christian’s newly beer stocked fridge. The absence of SMex’s official photographer was felt when we forgot again to take a picture. To continue with not-Valentine’s theme, we headed to Ringen to watch a psychological science-fiction movie.
Moon is described as an Action/Adventure science-fiction flick. However, if this is what you want to see, you’ll be a bit disappointed. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy a smart story, set on space with really good acting, you’re in for a treat.
What the movie lacks is proper “action”, it makes up by taking you on smart ride. Story wise, nothing is too unexpected, but every time I found myself thinking I figured out what was going to happen next, the characters would just say it and let me know that we where on the same page, I was neither smarter nor stupider than them. There a bunch of 10 minute plot point which in any other modern Sci-Fi movie, would have been stretched for a whole hour.
The acting is also excellent. Which is critical since there are basically three characters: two played by Sam Rockwell and a computer voiced by Kevin Spacey. The computer’s performance is notable, since all of its emotions are just a few emoticons, coupled with Spacey’s monotone voice.
I really enjoyed this movie. It’s one of those atypical thought provoking stories that stayed with long after I left the kino.
Moon, 8.0 out of 10 based on 6 ratings
I enjoyed this movie as it was not action and had a couple of twists that were not that obvious. The face of Gerty was great
