This movie marked the official SMEX end to the Oslo Festival. I was joined by the Festival heavy-hitters: Adam and Jeremy in what was a surprising low attendance for a Saturday. Following the customs established during the week, no beers where acquired before the movie. But as they say, SMEX is, SMEX does. Beer was served at People’s after the kino.

Extract was written and directed by Mike Judge, who is mostly known for the classic Office Space. I must confess that I was excited yet with low expectations going into this movie. I was prepared for a quirky romantic movie between the leads Jason Bateman (from Arrested Development) and Mila Kunis (That 70′s Show), both actors whom I really like.

I was pleasantly surprised, this is a light funny movie with a light plot that takes where you think it’s going in the end, but not the way you are used to. There are a couple of times in the movie where a typical plot line that would have been stretched to the point of absurdity in other movies is dealt with in a funny but real way.

All in all, I really liked this movie. It’s funny and has good acting (my secret Mila Kunis crush is affecting my judgement, according to el presidente).

I just managed to see this myself. Although it’s fairly nice, it’s only suitable for those times when your brain is in no condition to handle anything more complicated. Like the day after the Christmas party, for example.

But yeah, it’s Office Space material, although with less jokes.
